Abstract
This proposed standard describes a laboratory test method for the measurement of the coefficient of permeability for airflow (pneumatic permeability) through porous media (e.g., soils) partially saturated with water. Control and measurement of the airflow is effected at the inlet of the specimen. The permeameter cell is fitted with dual transfer lines that isolate the specimen pressure drop from the effects of gas flow in the apparatus. Electronic instrumentation results in short test times that minimize changes in water content. This proposed standard addresses the need to develop a body of knowledge in support of soil vapor extraction (SVE) systems and allied environmental remediation activities.
